Leeds City Council has launched a new community-led improvement programme called Love Leeds, designed to work with residents across all 33 wards to improve neighbourhoods.
The programme brings together council services, health partners, West Yorkshire Police and third sector groups to identify and deliver visible improvements based on what residents want to see in their area.
How Love Leeds will work
The scheme follows a rolling model that starts with consultation. Council staff and partners will hold resident drop-ins, workshops and pop-up listening sessions to understand local priorities. The council is particularly keen to hear from grassroots groups and communities that are less often consulted.
After gathering views, action plans will be developed to address the issues residents raise. The final stage involves intensive work on the ground to make visible changes.
What improvements might be made
Possible improvements include environmental clean-ups, weeding, graffiti removal, highway improvements, fly-tipping prevention, and cleaning of community housing. Health partners will also offer support such as pop-up blood pressure checks and health outreach work.
Where and when the programme starts
The first ward selected is Chapel Allerton, beginning in early October. Headingley and Hyde Park, Little London and Woodhouse, and Moortown will follow through November and December. All remaining wards in Leeds will be included in 2027, with the programme then repeating in an ongoing cycle.
The council chose these initial wards based on currently active community groups, strong relationships with community and voluntary sector organisations, and existing neighbourhood networks.
Getting involved
Council services involved include Housing Leeds, parks and greenspace, highways, the Leeds Anti-Social Behaviour Team, public health, Active Leeds, community hubs, waste management, jobs and skills and volunteering.
